Does your organisation suffer from a leadership gap? Over the years, I’ve found that many organisations in times of changing growth take someone who’s very good operationally and make them a leader. What happens is that the operations falter because they’ve lost a good operational person, and then of course, the leader falters, too, because he’s got a different set of skills he needs to have. Mainly high-level leadership skills that he doesn’t know about.

What happens is, he says, Do what I did,” but doesn’t connect with the people. I think that’s really important that you need to actually give people in the modern era proper training in being a leader, about communication, about motivation, about delegation, about reporting, about time management, about presentation.

All these skills are very important to the leader of a group. We take people and thrust them into a leadership position without any assistance and wonder why they falter. In the modern business world, we need to make sure that our leaders understand they need to have these skills and how they can use them properly to make the organization, their group, their team a high-performance one.
